The third message that I want to give to every brain injury survivor across the globe is that, without strength training, it is impossible to get back your lost physical capabilities and return to your previous strength and energy level.
Strength training is the key to all kinds of success with your health after any kind of brain injury. The community of neuroscientists, physiotherapists, doctors, and other brain injury health providers will talk about everything related to your injury: rehabilitation, gate pattern analysis, cognitive function improvement, speech therapy, and so on. But they will never talk about the most vital thing needed to get the life of a brain injury survivor back on track, which is strength training.
The purpose of rehabilitation after any injury is to quickly make the injured person return to basic daily functioning. Rehabilitation is an essential part of any kind of injury, but it has its limitations. Rehabilitation cannot make you stronger. It cannot rebuild the muscle mass you lost due to injury. You always need some kind of strength training to build your muscle mass and strength.
After any kind of brain injury, the survivor loses a significant amount of muscle mass due to disuse and neurological atrophy. Losses in muscle mass and neurological weakness lead to loss in both the physiological and neural strength of the body. Without proper strength training, it is impossible to gain muscle mass and strength. Nobody will talk about this literally no one. The moment a brain injury survivor stands and walks from a bedridden condition, rehabilitation is over. Now he or she needs an intensive strength and conditioning program under the supervision of a good strength and conditioning coach with knowledge of brain injury cases.
After I returned from my coma and was discharged from the hospital, it took me nearly two months to stand and walk, which was phenomenal. But after that, I was continuously in some kind of rehabilitation for nearly five years after the injury, and literally nothing had changed. I was weak and living a life in complete misery and darkness. My life changed when I started researching my case in 2017 and finally left physiotherapy completely in August 2017 and joined a gym with the help of one of my school friends.
There were no knowledgeable coaches to train me in the gym, and everything I did was single-handed. Strength training, especially weightlifting, gave me everything: my strength, power, mobility, flexibility, confidence, courage, and most importantly, it gave me a new life. I gained all my lost muscle mass in the process, which significantly improved my quality of life and movement. It also shaped my career.
Without strength training, it will be impossible to gain your lost physical capabilities back; always keep that in mind. This is science, this is research, and this is my life experience. Strength training is easy; you only need guidance from a specific person to make things easy for you. I am here for you to make things easy, simple, and effective.
